You have to feel the poetry not just think about it. Whether you write it down or not, poetry is presented to us every day in the way that we analyze the world around us. I love music that has a poetic vibe to it and really makes you think, not just of what the songwriter meant by the lines they wrote but also of what it means to you. I write songs all the time and I try to make it mean something to me, whether it makes no sense to others or not.
Songwriting can be very relaxing or very difficult. I used to sit down sometimes and think that i had to write a song, when all I’d end up doing was writing a really poorly planned out piece of crap, if I may be so blunt about it. Now I only write when I feel like I have a good idea or when something urges me to write although I may not know what it will be until it is out on the page.
